Do or die!

WHY do the wildebeests and other animals endlessly follow the migration cycle? They must do it or die....the migration starts in the North on the Mara where the females fatten up on the endlessly lush, richly nutritious vegetation. This is also the breeding ground where over one million females are impregnated. They then begin the long journey south across the Serengeti enroute to the Ngorongoro crater. Once there, the mothers eat the mineral rich vegetation which helps to build strong bones for their soon to be born calves. Thus, when the babies are born, they too, have a mineral rich diet which prepares them for the long journey North back up to the Mara. During the Great Migration. 250-300,000 wildebeest die. But, this year due to record rain / food supply, it is estimated that up to one million wildebeest will be born!
