Khayelitsha

Means "new home" (together as a family)...this is the name of the biggest black township that is home to 1.2 million (20%) of the 5 million population of Cape Town! This township sprung up after slave trade was outlawed in 1834 and families were allowed to be reunited to live together. Also referred to as Shantytown, which has a positive connotation here because it meant families could live together.
